Courtney Bae was born in Sydney, Australia to an American mother and a South Korean father. Her appetite for art began as early as childhood when she absorbed advice from her father’s Chinese painting teacher.
Her art continued to blossom during high school but after graduation it remained dormant for most of her adult life where she channelled her creativity towards fashion. In 2008 she moved to New York City where she studied Fashion Design and Graphic Design. During her time in New York she followed a career as a Visual Merchandiser, curating retail spaces for luxury fashion brands. In January of 2016 she began painting again.
Bae has a tendency to forget the subject altogether and to place her focus on finding the perfect balance through colour, composition, line etc. Her work is very intimate, often provocative, and always pleasing. She enjoys a sense of madness somewhere within her neat and tidy world and loves to keep her work very raw, achieving whats she wants in as few strokes as possible.
