Garden Art Workshops

Workshops are run by Courtney Bae, a Sky Portrait Artist of the Year semi-finalist and a twice represented professional artist. Whether you're drawn to the classic elegance of portraiture, the delicate beauty of florals, or the quiet charm of still life, all workshops offer gentle, expert guidance tailored to ages 8+ and to all skill levels across a range of mediums—from charcoal, pencil sketching, gouache, and watercolour pencil to pastels and oil painting.
Every session is designed as a tranquil escape: all materials are provided, and select workshops even feature a hot drink or glass of wine for a delightful "sip and paint" experience in nature. Working on fine art paper, you’ll combine the precision of pencil and charcoal sketching, colour theory working with pastels, and the fluid qualities of ink. We’ll explore how to translate gorgeous fresh cuttings from Hazelbank’s flower shop onto paper by breaking it down into essential shapes, capturing key proportions, and using colour values and tone to build realistic form and shadow. Whether you want to achieve strong likenesses or a more painterly expression, you'll receive personalised, gentle guidance every step of the way.

Using high-quality paper, you’ll experiment with sketching pencils, rich charcoal, and dynamic pastels. We’ll focus on observing still life foliage gathered from the garden alongside seasonal vegetables, looking at how to map out balance and proportion, build up depth, and blend rich colours. Whether you prefer loose, expressive marks or fine, delicate details, you’ll receive encouraging, tailored instruction to help express your personal style.
Visitors are welcome to explore and enjoy the beautiful gardens before or after the session with the purchase of a standard garden entry ticket.
